On 1 November 2024, the first international conference of the Diversity in Architecture Association (DIVIA) titled ‘Mind the Gap’ took place at the Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin. In the future, DIVIA will host the English-language conference every two years, alternating annually with the presentation of the DIVIA Award.

The first session entitled ‘Researching the Gap’, moderated by Dr Katharina Stolz, included fantastic contributions from Pascale Sablan (Adjaye Associates NYC Studio), Dr Friederike Landau-Donnelly (guest researcher TU Dortmund) and Mechthild Ebert (saai Karlsruhe). The great conclusion of this session was provided by five current and former female architecture students from the University of Stuttgart, who presented their results from the seminar ‘Women in Architecture’ (WiSe 2023/24, led by Dr Katharina Stolz).
Tuba Benli, Nadine Bunge, Leticia Ivania da Costa Pedro, Eva Dingeldein and Sarah Mohammad Ali spoke impressively about the visibility and presence of female architects in research and teaching and the lack of historical and contemporary role models.
