Paul-Bonatz-Archive (Plan collection II)

The architect and university lecturer Paul Bonatz (1877-1956) was one of the most influential figures in Stuttgart architecture in the first half of the 20th century. As assistant and successor to Theodor Fischer's chair at the Technical University (today: University of Stuttgart), he was one of the main representatives of the so-called ‘Stuttgarter Schule’ (= School of Stuttgart). His wide-ranging work included public buildings as well as private residences; his most famous designs include the new Stuttgart Central Station (1914-1927), which still characterises the city centre today.

With around 600 plans, drawings and model photos, the Institute of Architectural History manages a large part of Bonatz's estate. The collection includes plans and documents from the years between 1907 and 1943, with a focus on the years around 1940. The collection contains sketches, design and presentation drawings as well as implementation plans for public buildings, buildings for administration and transport, bridges, barrages, single and multi-family houses and monuments.
